Vadym Borysov has served as Concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine since 2001. Prior to this appointment, he held the positions of Associate Concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (1991–1992) and Concertmaster and Assistant Conductor of the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra (1992–2024). Throughout his distinguished orchestral career, he has toured in more than twenty countries across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Mr. Borysov has performed in many of the world's most prestigious concert venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tonhalle Zürich, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Suntory Hall, Symphony Hall Osaka, Seoul Arts Center, Carnegie Hall, and Seiji Ozawa Hall. His appearances as a soloist with the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra have been praised by critics, who described him as a
“brilliant soloist” (Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany), noted his “extraordinary individual virtuosity” (Chicago Tribune, USA), and wrote that his playing produced “veritable fireworks” (Nordbayerischer Kurier, Germany).
Born and raised in Kyiv, Ukraine, Mr. Borysov graduated from the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music. He subsequently participated in masterclasses with distinguished musicians including Earl Carlyss, Dmitry Shebalin, and András Mihály. As first violinist of the Kyiv Conservatory String Quartet, he won prizes at international competitions and festivals, including the All-Union String Quartet Competition and the Orlando Music Festival. Later, he founded the Rideamus String Quartet, which has performed at numerous international festivals, including the La Chaise-Dieu Festival in France, the Vysocina Festival in the Czech Republic, the Adirondack Dvorák Festival in the United States, and several major festivals in Ukraine.
As an educator, Vadym Borysov teaches at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, where he leads violin, string quartet, and orchestral excerpts classes. His students have won prizes at international competitions in Belgium, Switzerland, France, and Italy. Many of his former students have continued their studies at leading music institutions around the world. Mr. Borysov regularly gives masterclasses throughout Ukraine and abroad and has extensive experience serving on the juries of national and international competitions.
In 2015, Vadym Borysov was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of Ukraine, one of the highest national distinctions bestowed upon performing artists for outstanding contributions to Ukrainian culture and the performing arts.
